Why I Care About Medicare

Published by Averee Martinez on

Most people wouldn’t connect ambition with Medicare. I understand that. However, for me, the connection makes sense.

I’ve always been someone who thinks long-term. I think about decades, about building things that last, and about helping people feel financially secure. That’s why I chose to study Entrepreneurship and Psychology. One taught me how to build and grow something. The other taught me how people think and what happens when they feel overwhelmed.

Because of that, Medicare sits right at the center of those lessons. At its core, Medicare is about stability. It affects whether someone feels secure in retirement and whether a medical issue becomes manageable or financially stressful. When I think about the kind of leader I want to be, I don’t only picture launching companies. I picture creating stability. I want people to feel informed instead of confused and confident instead of pressured.

Healthcare decisions aren’t purely logical. They carry emotion and require trust. That’s where my background really matters. Psychology helps me understand what someone might not even be saying out loud. At the same time, entrepreneurship helps me think ahead and consider how today’s choice affects tomorrow.

Personally, I don’t rush people through important decisions. Instead, I prefer clear conversations. I explain options in plain language and make sure someone understands what they’re choosing and why.

I’ve always believed impact doesn’t have to be loud to matter. Helping one person feel confident about their Medicare coverage may seem small. However, when you multiply that confidence across families and communities, it creates real stability. For that reason, Medicare isn’t random for me. It aligns with who I want to be: someone who builds, leads, and protects peace of mind during important seasons of life.
