US GLP-1 Access Starts Soon
Starting July 1, 2026, eligible federal prescription enrollees can access certain GLP-1 medications with a flat $50 monthly copay during the temporary demonstration.
The temporary demonstration is scheduled for 18 mo, ending December 31, 2027, and mainly supports beneficiaries seeking weight management options outside standard coverage rules.
Eligibility includes qualifying prescription drug coverage, coordinated care plans, certain special plan categories, dual enrollment, and military-retiree wraparound coverage with qualifying drug coverage.
Adults need a qualifying BMI threshold; some lower-BMI applicants also need listed conditions such as prediabetes, prior heart attack, stroke, or kidney disease.
Claims will not process before July 1, 2026, while cost estimates, enrollment projections, and post-2027 plans remain publicly unclear for beneficiaries and providers.
